Central Sterile Processing Technician (CSP)
Warren General Hospital is seeking a certified, Central Sterile Process Technician to aide our surgical team!
Job Type: Full-time, Days
Pay: $18.58 - $19.99 per hour
Job Purpose: To appropriately process, maintain and dispense materials and equipment required by medical, nursing and surgery personnel for the care, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Prioritize the need for instruments, equipment and supplies based on the scheduled surgical cases, surgeries in process and surgical cases added during the work schedule.
Follows the established Policies and Procedures for Blood Borne Pathogens and Standard Precautions to identify and reduce the risks of infections among patients, employees, ancillary staff, etc.
Properly dispose of biohazardous waste materials from surgical procedures, adheres to OSHA standards and use of PPE.
Identify and sort contaminated instruments and equipment, to protect delicate instruments, and decontaminates items according to established standards of practice and policy.
Disassemble and reassemble items with multiple parts; recognize dissembled parts of intricate instruments and equipment, reassemble, and return to appropriate trays.
Recognizes the instruments and is able to inspect their proper functioning prior to reassembling them into the appropriate trays.
Determine the appropriate decontamination process/procedure, and utilize appropriate decontamination equipment.
Inspects for cleanliness, assembles, wraps, sterilize and records data; stores supplies and instrument trays.
Monitors sterilizers mechanically, biologically and chemically in accordance with Quality Assurance Standards and Performance Improvement Standards and takes appropriate action for abnormal results.
Operates all equipment in Central Sterile Processing (CSP) and the Operating Room (OR) Suites including autoclaves, heat-sealer machine, washer sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, Steris System IE according to practice standards and manufacturers recommendations.
Distribute reprocessed supplies and equipment to the surgical suite and ancillary departments where appropriate.
Follows the appropriate cleaning regimen for the area and maintains a clean/organized work area.
Prepare a linen order and maintain an appropriate inventory.
Compile CSP productivity statistics and prepare end of the month report. Maintains daily records of sterilizer operation and items sterilized.
Order special request (non-inventory) items for CSP and for the OR suite, along with a weekly storeroom order for supplies.
Report maintenance requests for equipment/instruments when broken to Director of Surgical Services, Team Leader, or Business Manager.
Assist staff nurses with transporting patients, as needed.
Assists in the transportation of specimens to proper areas, as needed.
Communicates clearly in writing and/or verbally within the department and ancillary departments.
Cleans sterilizers weekly and descale sterilizers monthly.
Re-date/re-process sterile items as needed.
Checks expiration dates on all disposable items in CSP department.
Compiles and maintains check sheets for new instrument trays and updates current trays, when needed.
Maintain extra sterile supplies and linen packs for stocking ORs and ancillary nursing units.
WORK/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school education or equivalent
Certification through a National Organization in Central Sterile Processing
